 Track Description
I have chosen sequencing events as my learning gap because I have found that many students have a difficult time sequencing events in stories. 52% of my students failed a teacher made sequencing test, and 31% made a D. This track is intended to teach sequencing skills to sixth grade reading students. The learning expectations for this unit will be for students to identify the main events of a story and put them in the correct order orally as well as written. They will have to give the definition of sequencing, and put story cards in the correct sequence. This track requires higher order thinking skills, because students will have to take information from stories apart and then put it back together in the correct order, and in their own perspective. This unit correlates with the reading content standard which states: The student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text.
