This unit goes along with Jan Brett's "The Mitten" and explores the theme of snow and cold weather. Students will be writing a friendly letter, an animal riddle, a winter snow story, and a report on animals in winter. This unit addresses the learning gap of teaching the students to write five-sentence paragraphs by providing a variety of writing experiences. It addresses the TN State Curriculum standard that states: The student will develop the structural and creative skills necessary to produce written language that can be read and interpreted by various audiences.
