Track Description
This track was created for multiage Special Education Language Arts students who have difficulty demonstrating appropriate use of Standard English in usage and mechanics as the identified learning gap. The student will: write an acrostic poem about a commemorative coin; write a book review; write a poem; and, access the Internet to identify words as the correct part of speech. The student will use the Internet to answer questions, practice skills online, and choose the parts of a topic that are most important to explain to others as stated in the Teacher Profiler pre-survey. The track addresses the TN Curriculum Framework Standard for Language Arts 3-5 cluster Language Arts Content Standard that states that the student will develop the structural and creative skills necessary to produce written language that can be read and interpreted by various audiences. The learning expectations are as follows: the student will demonstrate effective writing style by the use of vivid words, varied sentences, and appropriate transitions; the student will use the elements of the writing process as appropriate to the writing task; the student will write frequently for a variety of purposes such as narration, description, and personal, creative expression; and, the student will recognize and demonstrate appropriate use of Standard English: usage, mechanics, spelling, and sentence structure.
