The stated learning gap is (career development). The school counseling standard for 6-8 grades in career development states that students will describe the relationship between interests and abilities, analyze methods of progressing toward a goal and conduct an assessment of one's current skills, abilities, and career prospects. I chose this unit ("The Real World and Careers Closer Than You Think") because it allowed my students to use the Internet to explore their interest and abilities. This unit allows students to look at methods of monitoring progression toward a goal and to assess one's skills and abilities and relate them to career prospects. My students will use the Internet to research topics and/or careers as stated in the teacher pre-survey.
