Track Description
This track is intended to increase 6th grade student's ability to critically think and answer math/reading word problems. These are ongoing lessons that will gradually increase the student's ability to write and solve word problems. Students will first learn to write/solve one step problems then increase to two step and then three step problems. This unit addresses my student's learning gap by giving the students gradually increasing word problem with difficulty. This unit addresses the sixth through eight grade content standards from the Tennessee Curriculum Framework by enabling my students to recognize, represent, and model real numbers and operations verbally, physically, symbolically, and graphically. This unit addresses many of the items in the survey. Moreover, this unit addresses specifically the need to connect what they learn in school to what they do outside of school and to assist my students to connect what they learn in school to things they know that other people use in work or hobbies as described in the student profiler survey. In this track, students will address the four following performance objectives: create and solve word problems, solve word problems using problem solving approaches to investigate and understand mathematical content, calculate and solve problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of rational numbers, and solve math word problems on the Internet.
