 Track Description
The students will read Charlotte's Web and other books to improve skills in recognizing and distinguishing between major events and minor details. The stated learning gap is recognizing major events and minor details when given reading samples. The unit Charlotte's Web was chosen because it requires the students to read from the chapter book, Charlotte's Web. The 3-5 cluster Reading content standard states that the student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation and appreciation of the written text. I chose this unit because it allows my students to use the Internet to explore Charlotte's Web and other books in an effort to improve their comprehension skills and spot the important facts, concepts and vocabulary when they are learning something new as indicated in Question #10 in the teacher survey.
