This unit, Destination Dictionary, allows students to become more familiar and efficient when using the dictionary. The student will recognize the importance of understanding new vocabulary words in daily activities. The 3-5 language atrs curriculum content standard states that the student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, intrepretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreccciation of the written text. While focusing on word recognition, the students will also be using context clues and evaluation to help them to better understand the text. This unit will allow students to apply a variety of reading strategies, extend reading vocabulary utilizing sight words, phonetic and structural analysis, and context, and develop study skills to facilitate learning.
