The stated Learning gap is reading comprehension. The unit, "Publish Your Book Review", was chosen because it will enhance the students appreciation of the book and help them better understand the characters and the plot as they publish their own book review. We will use this with the book "Skinnybones" in a fourth grade classroom, in a small city Title I school. The fourth grade Language Arts 3-5 cluster Reading content standard states that the student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text. I chose this unit because it allowed my students to collaborate with one another and think of different ways to show what they have learned. This unit will require students to: create an unique book report using the latest technology summarize the story on a story chain present a paper bag book report to the class find information about book characters from a variety of sources use an on-line dictionary as a tool.
