 Track Description
This is a wonderful track for advanced fourth grade reading classes because they love to read and lead! These activities allow a teacher to model, and then move the teaching process of Reciprocal Teaching from teacher-directed to student-directed. Once teachers and students become comfortable with this teaching strategy, it can be adapted to any curriculum area. Students are given a script for "teaching" the class and roles for performance. These "teacher" leaders will be addressing their learning gap as they take responsibility for asking and answering critical thinking questions about the passage being studied. Curriculum standards in Reading and Speaking and Listening will be addressed as children use critical thinking skills necessary for comprehension, interpretation, analysis, and evaluation of the written text. Students will express ideas clearly and effectively in a variety of oral contexts and apply active listening skills in the analysis and evaluation of spoken ideas. Sites align perfectly with the profiler survey as it asks students to find different ways to tell others what they have learned and ask questions that help themselves and others understand a topic better. They also get to put themselves in their teammates' shoes during a discussion so they can understand their points better.
