 Track Description
My third grade students appear to have difficulty with interpreting poetry. This unit will provide activities that will strengthen studentsÂ’ ability in poetry interpretation by allowing the students to start at the beginning of poetry writing. We will go through the writing of poems step-by-step. The student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text. This unit will help the students develop an appreciation for different styles of poetry. It encompasses the use of items that are familiar to the students and helps them to explore areas of literature they may have been unfamiliar/uncomfortable with through step-by-step lessons. Students will also learn different techniques for memorization.
