 Track Description
This track "Exploring Multiplication Patterns" will help fourth grade students begin the process of mastering multiplication facts. It will help students develop computational fluency by exploring patterns in multiplication involving one-digit factors. This specifically meets my learning gap that states that my fourth grade students do not know the multiplication facts, as evidenced on the Advanced Learning System computer program. The TN Curriculum Framework Standard for grades 3-5 math states that in order for the student to develop an understanding of estimation, measurement, to develop effective estimation and computation strategies for producing reasonable results, and to calculate using appropriate tools such as mental mathematics, technology, manipulatives, and pencil and paper. I feel that this track addresses the Teacher Profiler Survey questions that state my students learn something as completely as they can, my students are willing to try tasks that seem hard to do, and my students think about their best skills and use them to complete a task. The learning objectives for this track include memorizing the multiplication facts 0-9, developing computational fluency by exploring patterns in multiplication, understanding and using the zero property for multiplication and the property of one as a factor in multiplication, and to enjoy learning the time tables!
