 Track Description
Through assignments I have given on writing this year I have found that my students do not use descriptive writing. This activity addresses the TN Writing Curriculum Framework for grades 4-8 which states the student will develop the structural and creative skills necessary to produce written language that can be read and interpreted by various audiences. It also addresses the Gateway subskill item # 8 Writing Strategies. The Profiler survey items that will be addressed are #5 (My students find ways to use what they learn) and #10 (My students use what they know about this topic in other school subjects). The students will practice looking for details in ordinary objects and write about them. The students will write about dinosaurs which will incorporate descriptive writing in their Science class. They will also use their new skills to rewrite restaurant menus to make the entrees seem more enticing. The students will write descriptions of ordinary actions. The students will finally use similes in this descriptive writing unit.
