 Track Description
The stated Learning gap is in the area of measurement. The unit "Can of Worms" was chosen because it requires the students to estimate measurements of length and then check their estimate. The fifth grade Math/3-5 cluster Estimation, Measurement, and Computation standard states that the student will use a variety of measuring devices to collect, organize, and communicate data. I chose this unit because it allowed me to use the Internet in my class to answer questions or practice skills online as described in the Profiler teacher Usage Survey. This is an activity where students will estimate how many of each manipulative it will take to equal a certain length of a gummi worm. They will count the actual number it takes and then record on activity sheet. Questions will follow to determine estimation strategies used.
