Track Description
This unit will address my learning gap which is, my fifth grade students were deficient in their geometry skills. Then Tennessee State Curr. Framework in Math for 3-5 states: In order to develop spatial sense and an understanding of Geometric Concepts, the mathematics curriculum must include problems which require students to explore geometric properties and relationships and to investigate, model, and analyze one, two, and three dimensional figures. The students will accomplish this through developing geometry skills which they will demonstrate as they design a room for a new house; use a hands on approach to design and create shapes which they will then determine the area and volume of; by developing research skills through comparing plane figures; using the computer to practice skills online; and by demonstrating the ability to transform concepts by using model and pictorial representations through the study and application of map skills. The students will further develop higher order thinking skills as they use the computer to answer questions and practice skills online (survey question number 24), and learning to connect what they learn in school to things they know people use in work or hobbies (survey question number 14).
