 Track Description
In evaluating the 2000 Terra Nova scores of my fifth grade class, I found 60% showed difficulty adding and subtracting fractions and then taking them to lowest terms. This unit is designed to further develop an understanding of fractions. It provides exciting hands-on methods to learn, practice, and reinforce recognizing and formulating fractions, adding and subtracting fractions, and making equivalent fractions. This corresponds to the math standards for the TN Curriculum in grades 3-5 that states: NUMBER SENSE AND NUMBER THEORY: In order to develop Number Sense and an understaning of Number Theory, the mathematics curriculum must include problems which require students to recognize, represent, and model real numbers and operations verbally, physically, symbolically, and graphically.
