This unit will be used in fourth grade to address the learning gap in math as 75% of my students showed a deficient understanding of the relationship among numbers and operations using decimals. This unit addresses the math standard, grade cluster 3-5: ESTIMATION, MEASUREMENT, AND COMPUTATION: In order to develop understanding of Estimation, Measurement, and Computation, the mathematics curriculum should include problems which require students to apply appropriate tools and units of measurement, to develop effective estimation and computation strategies for producing reasonable results, and to calculate using appropriate tools such as mental mathematics, technology, manipulatives, and pencil-and-paper. This Track also addresses the Profiler Survey question number nine" students ask questions that help them understand a topic better."
