 Track Description
This track designed for third grade addresses the learning gap of gaining better phonics skills in order to bcome a better reader. The student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text. The track will assist students in trying something new that is hard for them and learning to spot important facts, concepts and vocabulary when they are reading. It addresses the School Improvement Plan of raising Reading test scores on the Terra Nova to 80% mastery. The students will learn various phonograms and learn to combine them with different onset phonemes to become familiar with a variety of wods. The students will use The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss to read various phonograms. The students will develop of word wall of various consonant diagraphs. They will also do activities with rhyming words and play a game with short vowel sounds.
