 Track Description
Approximately 85% of my 8th grade students have demonstrated a lack of understanding of the career planning process. Students are required to develop a four year high school plan. In order to complete this task, students must have an awareness of their interests, abilities, and career choices. This unit will give the students the opportunity to investigate their interests and look closer at the choices they are making. The curriculum standard chosen states: Forming a Career Identity: 1.Describe how values and needs influence career choice. 2.Evaluate the importance of setting realistic career goals and striving toward them. 3.Explain how needs can be met in work and in leisure. 4.Analyze how stereotypes affect career identities. Each of these areas will be addressed in the activities throughout this unit. The students will have the opportunity to use the Internet research topics as stated in the Profiler surveys.
