This unit encourages students to be creative in their own writings, as well as being critical of others. It allows students to create the beginning of a story, develop the action for the story and bring the story to a conclusion. The Tennessee Curriculum states that the student will develop the structural and creative skills necessary to produce written language that can be read and interpreted by various audiences. My gap stated that my fifth grade students have problems developing structural and creative skills necessary to produce creative stories. This unit will enable them to recognize the importance of creative writing and make them aware of what is needed to create interesting stories.
