Track Description
The Tennessee Curriculum Framework states that the student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of written text. According to the Literacy Skills Class Summary Report (Accelerated Reader), my reading students achieve lower in Inferential Comprehension than any other skill area. This unit addresses the learning expectation that students will use comprehension strategies to enhance understanding, to make predictions, and to respond to literature. Successfully completing this unit and the use of rubric evaluation allows my students to decide which tasks are most important to solve a problem and put them in the right order. The sites listed takes the students through activities that supplement the teaching of Sarah, Plain and Tall while giving them opportunities to respond to all types of literature in their personal journals.
The following skills will be addressed in this track:
1. Comparing and contrasting
2. Drawing Conclusions
3. Making Inferences
4. Making Predictions
5. Recognizing Cause and Effect
