Track Description
This track is based on the needs of a ninth grade creative writing class. The students in this class have demonstrated a gap in organizing an outline to help them create a piece of writing. The students have trouble putting events and writing in a logical sequence. The students will read an autobiography created by the teacher and the class will create a formal outline. Once the class has completed an example outline of the teacher's autobiography, the students will create their own outline. The students will create their own short autobiography by using a formal outline of their life as the basis for their writing. Once the students have completed their outline, they will create a power point presentation of their outlining skills. The students have been working with power point in their technology class and this lesson will integrate technology with language arts. This unit addresses the language arts standard: The students will develop the structural and creative skills necessary to produce written language that can be read and interpreted by various audiences. This unit will give the students a chance to create a formal outline using a topic that is well known to them. They will also be able to reiterate their outline on the computer which helps in the learning process.
