Teacher made tests and Terra-Nova test show 40% of the students not mastering reading comprehension at the 3rd grade level. A TN Curriculum Frameworks Content for Language Arts Standards for Grades 3-5 Reading content is the student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, appreciation of the written text. Learning expectations for this unit include the following: The student will-Use the newspaper to improve listening and reading comprehension skills; -Draw three events in sequential order for the book he/she read; -Demonstrate an understanding of the meaning of the story by interpreting the actual meaning of the directions; -Apply word analysis and vocabulary skills to comprehend sections;-Identify the main idea, character traits and predict outcomes. This unit will provide different strategies for teaching reading comprehension.
