8TH GRADE READING CLASS
This unit was chosen because it addresses Bloom's Taxonomy of higher levels of learning: analysis, application and synthesis while meeting the students learning needs (gap):
Content Standard: The student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text.
The profile survey items that this unit will address, "I spot important facts, concepts and vocabulary when I am learning something new.
"The students will select and read a book independently as part of his/her reading class. The students will create a paper bag book report using a paper bag. Students will choose five-to-seven items to place in the bag to represent significant events of characters from the book. Students will fill and decorate their bags to present to the class. Each student will be expected to give an oral book review. Each student must explain how the items he or she has chosen relates to the book. The student state at the end of his/her presentation whether he/she prefers the traditional book review report or this paper bag presentation.
