 Track Description
This track combines reading and music skills. Students in music class can enrich their reading skills by applying a variety of reading skills such as: extending the reading vocabulary utilizing sight words phonetic and structural analysis, improving comprehension, using comprehension strategies and reading orally. Third grade students in our school have difficulty reading orally. This unit will help students build a sight vocabulary. The third grade reading standard states; the student will develop reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text. "Building Vocabulary through Music" will help students strengthen oral reading skills by helping them recognize words on sight. Students will broaden their vocabulary by learning by learning to use new words. The students can use what they know to help learn new words and can use this new knowledge in other classes.
