 Track Description
The stated learning gap is the inability to identify and describe their future life and occupation. The unit What Do You Want to Be? was chosen because it allows students to investigate the types of work they might do as adults. They take a survey of their abilities and interests identifying several possible options they have. They then use the Encyclopedia and the Internet to research these careers. They also interview someone currently in the field of interest. This unit will be taught mainly to the 4th grade Guidance Classes with modifications made to accommodate lower level classes and lower ability students. The 3-5 Guidance standard of Planning for the Future and the student competency of describing one\\\'s future life are addressed in this unit so that students will be able to be better informed of several options available to them in today\\\'s society. Students will use the Internet (Profile #22) and will work together to determine how the things they learn in school could be used in a job (Profile #15).
