 Track Description
A poetry unit to enhance creativity and originality in Language Arts skills for third graders. My third grade students are having difficulties with poetry patterns. From teacher observation, class discussions, and teacher made tests, my students had difficulties 50% of the time with distinguishing between the different poetry patterns. This unit about poetry was chosen because it provides creativity and originality that students need for accomplishing writing concepts. This unit allows students to write freely without worrying yet about the rhyming concept as much. The poetry unit will consist of several types of poetry patterns, how each pattern is different, and how to relate poetry patterns to all subjects of study. The TN Curriculum framework Language Arts Writing Grades 3-5 content standard states: The student will develop the structural and creative skills necessary to produce written language that can be read and interpreted by various audiences. This unit will provide the students with different strategies for improving their writing skills and give them a better understanding that poetry is a form of written expression. This unit also allows my students access to information online as outlined in the teacher survey
