The stated learning gap is students have a lack of interest in reading and do not read or understand various genres. The unit Paper Bag Book Reports was chosen because it encourages students to read books and share these books with others in different ways. The 8th grade reading, 6-8 grade cluster curriculum standard states the student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text. I choose this unit because it allows students to learn something completely and connect what they learn to peoples hobbies and careers as addressed in the survey.
