Track Description
The stated learning gap is that students are not able to classify quadrilaterals. The unit "Classifying Quadrilaterals" was selected because if provides a chance for students to apply construction technology to find relationships and identify distinguishing properties among the various attributes of quadrilaterals. This lesson provides a quadrilateral chart and worksheet for students to organize their thinking. The curriculum standard for 3-5 cluster states that in order to develop Spatial Sense and an understanding of Geometric Concepts, the mathematics curriculum must include problems which require students to explore geometric properties and relationships and to investigate, model, and analyze one-, two-, and three-dimensional figures. Further lessons in this unit will incorporate the use of the Internet to research more information about quadrilaterals and to practice classification skills learned in class. Use the second link in this track first to be sure that students can identify quadrilaterals when given a set of polygons.
