After spending many years teaching, the students often see reading as torture in the 6th grade. Sharing successful ideas on how to introduce and enhance students knowledge of literature promotes a lifetime appreciation of books. This unit will allow students to put themselves in the book and to understand others point of view. The 6th grade Terra Nova Reading scores were below 60% on the 1999-2000 test. These students have not actively participated in an Accelerated Reading program and this book is a required reading in the 6th grade according to county policy.
