This unit is designed to help students learn and demonstrate proficiency in the care and use of computer based technology. It addresses the following Tennessee Curriculum Standards for Technology, grades 6-8: The student will demonstrate proficiency in the care and use of computer based technology. My students have an inadequate knowledge of computer-related terms. Often when I ask them to perform a particular task, I say "click on the icon for..." or "use the applications menu to..." Without an understanding of the terms, they cannot follow my directions. Students also do not know the function of various computer parts such as the processor, memory, and hard disk and therefore cannot understand how the computer works. Through the activities in this unit I hope my students will better understand the meanings of computer-related terms and can use them to broaden their understanding of how the computer works and to help them use computer technology for various projects.
