 Track Description
My learning gap, reading comprehension, was chosen because thirty-two percent of my third grade reading class was unable to demonstrate mastery of this skill on a teacher-made test. This indicated that my class was not meeting the TN Curriculum Standard stating that the student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation and appreciation of the written text. I chose this unit, "Amelia Bedelia", to help my students be better able to comprehend what they have read. This unit helps students focus in on the important details of the story, addressing Survey Item #9: "My students spot the important facts, concepts, and vocabulary when they are learning something new." It also causes students to think about how things they have learned in school can help them in the real world, addressing Survey Item #11: "My students connect what they learn in school to what they do outside of school."
