My 6th grade students do not show knowledge or understanding about the classical music period. I chose this unit of study "Back to the Classics" to help bridge that gap. Students will answer the following questions: What are the classics? What is chamber music? The student will work in small groups to research the composers, instruments, and typical presentation of chamber music in five distinct time periods, and then individually write biographies of composers from their assigned era. The learning expectation: Students will identify and demonstrate an understanding of the cultures and human patterns of places and regions of the world. This unit encourages students to use Internet to research topics in my class as addressed in the pre-survey.
