Track Description
As stated in the learning gap these students have difficulty in reading comprehension. In developing the unit "What A Character" activities were chosen to help students better understand the characters in a story in order to improve their level of comprehension. It will also help them to better meet the identified curriculum standard: The student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text. The skills listed above will be incorporated into the activities throughout the unit. The students will have a chance to learn something as completely as they can as stated in the Profiler teacher and student surveys. The learning expectations to be addressed are as follows: improve comprehension by interpreting, analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating written texts; use cognitive strategies to evaluate text critically; use comprehension strategies to enhance understanding, to make predictions, and to respond to literature; and discern reading strategies appropriate to text.
