 Track Description
Students admire "fancy writing" when they see it, but know nothing about calligraphy as an art form or form of self-expression. This unit will address that learning gap by giving the student the opportunity to learn about the history of calligraphy, various styles, and techniques for them to do it themselves. The TN Curriculum Standard I. for Art 6-8 states: "Children need many opportunities to create art." This unit meets that standard as students find opportunities to produce calligraphy both in school and out. Because students often begin using this skill to create decorative items outside school, it relates to the survey item #6 "My students find ways to use what they learn" and #14 "My students connect what they learn...to hobbies."
