Track Description
This track is designed to help sixth to eighth grade students learn the meanings and usage of the homonyms that they commonly misuse. The curriculum standards that are impacted by this learning gap are Language Arts Standard 1, Specific Expectation 1: Students should be able to speak and write appropriately for specific purposes and audiences. 1. Compose texts and responses that demonstrate appropriate grammatical and mechanical conventions of speaking and writing.
This activity forces the students to think about the specific definitions of commonly misused words and to use them correctly in the sentences they are writing.
Most of my students communicate with others throught the Internet. The students need to learn the difference between the "troublesome words" so that their thoughts will be read correctly by others.
