Track Description
This track is designed to give my fourth grade students an enjoyable way to practice spelling words and skills needed in reading for all subject areas. Also, it will help them to recognize words and understand their meanings in written language. The activities in this track focus on spelling, reading, writing, and technology. The Tennessee Curriculum Frameworks content for reading in grades 3-5 states, "The student will develop skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text." Specific learning expectations are using weekly spelling words correctly in context of a sentence, pronounce words in syllables, and improve writing by improving their spelling. I chose to use this unit with my students because more than half did not master these skills on their previous TCAP test.
