Track Description
Poetry Alive is a unit that uses Internet activities, humor, and music to teach simile, metaphor, personification and alliteration. In addition to this unit plan, students will work on similies and metaphors using the book Tuck Everlasting. With the personification lesson plan, students will use cartoon characters to understand personification and the students will draw characters of themselves on a poster. The alliteration lesson plan uses music and tongue twisters to teach alliteration. The units meet the Tennessee Curriculum framework standard; "the student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, and appreciation of the written text." It also meets the learning gap of interpreting literary elements and figurative language.
