As indicated in the learning gap my eighth grade students do not understand appropriate and inappropriate uses of chemical substances. In developing the unit of study "Say No to Drugs" I chose activities that would make them think seriously about the choices they are faced with making. The activities will help them look at the influences they encounter and how to handle these influences with good decision making skills. It will help them to better meet the Tennessee Curriculum Framework Standard: The student will understand appropriate and inappropriate uses of chemical substances. Hopefully my students will connect what they learn in school to what they do outside of school as stated in the Profiler teacher and student surveys, especially when faced with these kinds of decisions.
