Track Description
Many middle school students do not seem to have an interest in writing, and do not have any idea what an autobiography is, much less, be able to write one. This was evidenced on a recent test in which most students were unable to define an autobiography on a Multiple Choice test. The TN Curriculum Standard for Language Arts at the 6-8th grade level states: "The student will develop the structural and creative skills necessary to produce written language that can be read and interpreted by various audiences." This track, "Autobiography Writing", was designed to encourage students to write an autobiography to help narrow the learning gap by giving them easy steps to go through to write their own autobiography while encouraging them to "write frequently" and "evaluate and revise writing" as listed in the Learning Expectations under the TN Curriculum Standard for Language Learners at the 6-8th grade levels. The unit also encourages students to use the internet to help them write a more interesting autobiography by finding ways to use what they learn, and to answer questions or practice skills on line, as listed in the teacher profiler survey.
