As stated in the learning gap my 7th grade music students have difficulty identifying different types of music. In developing the unit "Jazz It Up", I chose activities that would actively involve the students in listening and representing the elements of jazz. It will allow them to better meet the curriculum standard: Understanding music in relation to history and culture; describe distinguishing characteristics of representative music genres and styles from a variety of cultures (for example: 20th century music, madrigal and chamber ensembles, electronic music, musical theater and opera). It will also give them the opportunity to learn something as completely as they can.
