 Track Description
This unit was designed to help seventh grade students overcome a learning gap related to map reading skills. This unit gives them practice in using maps in the classroom and on the Internet. The Tennessee curriculum framework standard for Social Studies 6-8 states: "Students will be able to use maps, globes, and other geographic representations, tools, and technologies to acquire, process, and report information from a spatial perspective." The standard will allow students to participate in map reading activities in the classroom. This unit addresses survey item numbers 4 (My students are willing to try tasks that seem hard to do), and 22, (my students use internet to research topics) because students find latitude and longitude to be difficult to master and they will be using internet to research maps.
