 Track Description
Students have difficulty with reading comprehension/analysis, and essay writing skills as evidenced by results from the TCAP and teacher administered tests. The 6-8 English/Language Arts Writing Standard states that the student will develop the structural and creative skills necessary to produce written language that can be read and interpreted by various audiences. The Reading Standard states that students will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text. Learning Expectations include: Approach writing tasks systematically and use elements of the writing process as appropriate; Identify and write for a variety of audiences; Improve comprehension by interpreting, analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating written texts; and Develop organized writing containing focused, well-developed ideas. This unit allows students to use the Internet in class for research, for e-mail, and for publishing their book reviews.
