 Track Description
My 5th grade students’ learning gap, difficulty in being able to record accurate characterizations for the main characters in a story that they read, is helped with the use of this online unit through the students looking for specific traits of their favorite character in a story. They will discuss how changing these traits, or even some of them, would impact the conclusion of the story. Finally, they construct a "bio poem" to be shared with the class about their character which emphasizes the character’s traits. This directly impacts the state curriculum framework standard for grades 3—5 language arts which states that the student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text.
