Track Description
This unit was developed to meet the learning gap of the top 10% of the 7th grade who were not achieving as much progress in Language Arts skills as the bottom and middle levels of their fellow students. It can be individualized for those top students who have mastered basic skills, but need enrichment. It allows them to read quality literature that they choose for themselves and then complete individual projects/activities on the literature chosen. This addresses the Tennessee Content Standard which states, "The student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text." Students will choose a novel from this guide to read and complete 3 of the 5 activities provided for each book. Completion of these activities will challenge the higher achieving student's thinking skills and will provide individualization to meet each student's needs. Students will do an author study at one site and a character study at another. They will be using the Internet to do research and practice skills.
