Students today are faced with a vast array of information available to them
via the Internet. It is important that they learn to evaluate the validity and
reliability of web sites so that their research is predicated on valid
information. This unit allows students to gain experience in determining the reliability of
web sites in four different areas.
The content standard for this unit is in English/Language Arts 6-8 states:
The student will use, read, and view media/technology and analyze content and concepts accurately
Learning expectations for these standards include the following:
Access and use multiple technological reference sources.
Use media to view, to read, to write, to communicate, and to create.
Evaluate the impact of media on daily life.
Locate, organize, and interpret information from print and non-print media.
Extend the use of the computer as a research and communication tool.
Use multimedia to create, to display, and to explain information.
Students will be using higher order thinking skills to determine the order of
necessary to solve a problem; learn to ask questions to better understand a
topic; learn to carry over skills learned in one subject area to another; become
more adept at using the Internet to research.
