My sixth grade students have had trouble enjoying and understanding poetry in the past. This unit is designed to help them to accomplish these goals. The stated learning gap states that students have demonstrating difficulties in writing and reading poetry with understanding. I want my students to discover the enjoyment that comes from reading poetry orally and creating poetry that has meaning for them. I found from the student's survey that my students need to use the technology that is available to them, so they will create and submit a poem online. I hope this unit will expand their appreciation and understanding of poetry.
