 Track Description
The stated learning gap is language expression. This unit was chosen because the ideas suggested in the unit can be easily adapted to the improvement of language expression. This unit includes four Internet activities designed for students to explore the importance of childhood toys, the transformation of stuffed to real, and the value of friendship. As students explore these cites, they are provided with opportunities to write about differences and similarities between a toy and something real and why toys are important to children. The additional URL's that were selected provide additional opportunities for students to connect online with other students in a pen pal situation about their own individual pets. Students also have a research assignment to conduct online and then present to the class. Another URL provides excellent poetry for students to read and model from. The 3rd grade, Language Arts (Writing) content standard states, "The student will develop the structural and creative skills necessary to produce written language that can be read and interpreted by various audiences." I chose this unit because the URL's in this unit allow me to use the Internet with my class to practice skills online as described in the teacher profiler survey.
