"Can You Comprehend?" was created to give my fifth grade students helpful strategies in being more able to comprehend passages that they read. It addresses the content standard that states, "The student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text." It addresses my learning gap (students have difficulty comprehending what they have read) by providing them with a useful tool to aide in their comprehension. It addresses the survey question that deals with students being willing to try something that is difficult for them. Students will be involved in activities such as using visualization to comprehend and note-taking strategies.
