"Estimation" was created to help my fourth grade students to be better able to estimate. It addresses the content standard that states, "In order to develop understanding of Estimation, Measurement, and Computation, the mathematics curriculum should include problems which require students to apply appropriate tools and units of measurement, to develop effective estimation and computation strategies for producing reasonable results, and to calculate using appropriate tools such as mental mathematics, technology, manipulatives, and pencil-and-paper." It also addresses the survey question that deals with students being willing to try something that is hard for them. Students will be using estimation to purchase various items.
