The stated Learning Gap is for students to think ahead to high school, college and careers. The unit Careers for the 21st Century was chosen because that is what the lesson is about - thinking ahead and making plans for the student's future. The 6-8 School Counseling content standard states students need to set goals, form a career identity, and plan for the future. This unit incorporates the student's interests by taking a career interest survey, then the students can explore the careers that interest them. o Students are proficient in the use of technology o Students demonstrate a sound understanding of the nature and operation of technology systems. o Students use technology tools to enhance learning, increase productivity, and promote creativity. o Students use appropriate technology to locate, evaluate, and collect information from a variety of sources. o Students develop positive attitudes toward technology uses that support lifelong learning, collaboration, personal pursuits, and productivity.
